That's me on my way to a Canadian wedding (geddit? Double denim? Canadian tuxedo?)
Last week I sat down (over email) with the lovely crew at Miss Moncur. What did we talk about you ask? Well, I'm not naming names but one of Miss Moncur's peeps is dog lady like myself so after we stopped gushing about my 4 legged besties we talked about this stuff...
How is it, you came to do what you're doing?
After studying fashion design, I realised I'm far too fickle to be able to choose a style and stick with it so decided playing with other people's clothes was more my pace. As most do, I interned for a little while, assisted some amazing fashion editors and then got a full time position and worked my way up. I was lucky enough to have had some incredibly inspiring women help me along the way and encourage me to hone my styling and writing skills in equal measure.
What is the most difficult thing you overcame and what did it teach you?
I'm a bit of a sensitive Sally and so it has taken some time to learn not to take everything personally. When you work in a creative field you put your heart and soul into what you do, and when people go over it with a big red pen making notes it can be a little disheartening. I can now dust myself off and learn from people tearing what you do to pieces.
Who inspires you and why?
Carine Roitfeld and Grace Coddington are iconic stylists for a reason, they're mind-blowingly clever, and they are two people whose work I cannot get enough of. In terms of writing I could read a shopping list written by David Sedaris and be pretty bloody happy.
Most memorable moment?
Going to Samoa to style a shoot with a photographer I love and a model I adore in a location that was offensively beautiful. It was a thinly veiled trip 'work trip', we had a blast pretty much every step of the way.
What is your signature style?
I favour short-ish shirts with slouchy tees for day and night, the only thing that changes are the shoes. My husband jokes that he's not sure if I'm off to the grocery store or a wedding because every outfit looks like a version of the same thing.
What's your favourite App?
I am an eBay junkie so I'm constantly scouring the net for mid-century furniture in good condition. It's an addiction.
Best advice you've ever received?
'Fake it 'til you make it'
What item can't you live without?
My daughter and my dog. These two divine creatures put everything in perspective. (Sorry husband! Haha!)
What three items are on your Miss Moncur wish list?
The harbour tweed top, the mongolian collar and the caviar lace scarf please!
