Win! A Seriously Sexy Maison D'Amore Candle Set

Written by

Candles have, in the last couple of years, become the status symbol of any well-styled home with the packaging becoming just as important as the scent itself. With that in mind it's safe to say Aussie creatives, Hayley Bonham and Nadia Rosa's latest venture into the world of luxe candles has nailed both the aromatic and visual side of their soon-to-be cult brand Maison D'Amore. We chat to Bonham and Rosa about the unexpected hurdles of creating a killer candle and their love affair with all things French...

Maison D'Amore 'Fleur & Rhubarbe' candle | $95 and Maison D'Amore 'Feuille De Tabac' candle | $95

What inspired you to begin Maison D'Amore?

We both shared the same love for candles and perfumes. Both coming from a creative background we wanted to open up a new creative outlet ourselves.

Choosing a scent seems like a limitless choice, how did you decide on the notes for these candles?

We are very lucky to be working with incredible perfumers in France. We discuss the mood and feel we want to create and the key notes and base it around that. We work through a number of samples with our perfumer until we find a unique scent we both love and incorporate that into the candles. We are lucky we both have the same taste and vision when working across these two scents.

What surprised you most about the process of creating candles?

There is so much work that goes into the process of creating something that we both love that you become very obsessive and pay extreme attention to detail. We both went to great lengths to make sure our product was presented at a high quality. There is so much you can offer and that’s not just the candle itself, we were able to create a complete M.D experience.  There are many creative paths we were able to get involved with.

The packaging is beautiful, which in the land of candles seems almost as important as the scent, tell us a little about the process of designing the packaging?

The packaging was a long process. We wanted to keep it on brand, we went to great lengths choosing the correct paper stock and labels. We wanted a point of difference and something that was going to be a lasting memory for our customers. We created the linen bags that the candles are presented in and the glass wear is Swedish, designed specifically for MAISON D'AMORE, leaving something to keep and reuse once the candle is burnt out.  We want customers to be presented with a certain quality from the moment they have the product in their hand.

Maison D'Amore obviously has a very French-influence, have you always had a love-affair with all things French?

Yes, having both traveled to Paris in the past few years we have developed a strong influence on the French lifestyle, film and photography which is portrayed throughout the MAISON D'AMORE aesthetic and campaign. We collaborated with Pierre Toussiant and French model Louise De Chevigny.

Fleur & Rhubarbe and Feuille De Tabac are the two fragrances that kick off the lanch of Maison D'Amore and trust me, they'll give even the stinkiest of rental properties the aroma of a fancy French boudoir. But the best part? We have a set of the gorgeous Maison D’Amore candles, valued at $95 each, to give away. All you need to do is comment below with what you favourite scent is. Fresh-cut lawns? Ryan Gosling fresh out of the shower? Tell us below in 25 words or less and you'll be in the running to win these seriously sexy candles. (Competition closes 14/5/14. Winners will be notified via email)

Shop Maison D’Amore and bag the best house-warming present of all time.
