Winter doesn't come naturally to me. Summer? Oh yeah, I can nail that season knee-deep in sea water with a handful of suncreen. But once the temps start to drop I stare into my wardrobe with a decidedly defeated look on my mug. Winter shopping for me requires research, so that my friends is what I've done. Consider these items your five best mates this winter.
One | The Camel Coat
If you only buy one thing this winter make it a camel coat. Seriously. This item will make even the daggiest outfits street-style photog ready, just ask Kim. Yep, Mrs. West proved that a camel coat can take you from reality TV starlet to bona-fide style icon (even as I write that, I'm pretty sure I'm lying) in an instant. Kim is obsessed with her Max Mara camel cover-up, but if you can't quite justify selling your car to buy a designer version try this ASOS number. Wrap this around you for work, weekend or going out, trust me, this will be the item you'll look back on when winter is (finally) over and wonder what the hell you would have done without.
Two | The Not-To-High Ankle Boot
Yeah, yeah, I hear what you're saying. 'The knee-high boot is back! Did you not see the Wang catwalk Thommo? DID YOU NOT SEE?'. Yeah mate, I did see, but I just love ankle boots. They magically lengthen your legs and give you a whiff of Kate Moss. AT THE SAME TIME. You just can't go by value like that. This winter make sure you invest in a pair you can pound the pavement in without wanting to cut off your feet in pure agony. These Saint Laurent beauties are possibly the perfect pair of wear-everywhere boots thanks to that sturdy heel and those comfy elastic side inserts. What more could a gal want? (Answer: John Snow)
Three | The Luxe Knit
What do you need most of all on those chilly July days? A big warm hug of course. And who better to dish out that hug than Karl Lagerfeld himself? Well, not exactly King Karl in person, but in the way of this seriously snug looking jumper from his latest collection. While a practical knit might not seem like the funnest thing to be adding-to-cart it's way more fun than being cold. This jumper also gets extra points (I'm not sure who is keeping score) for not being black or grey.
Four | The Perfectly Distressed Jean
Winter is a terrible time for wearing clothes with holes in them? Oh, poppycock. As far as showing skin the cooler months goes this is pretty much as much as you can get away without making your nipples harder than getting a free ticket to Spendour In The Grass, so give it a whirl I say. These Romeo jeans will see you stylishly through winter no worries, and like that delightful candy coloured knit above will keep you out of a wintery black hole.
Five | Many, Many Breton Stripe Tees
To be honest with you, a Breton stripe tee is an essential for any season, but particularly shines in winter. Team this bad boy with the aforementioned distressed jeans, camel coat and ankle boots and BAM! You're French. It's really that easy. While this one is a tad on the spendy side, if a more inexpensive one catches your eye buy it in bulk. It's like winter's answer to that grey marle singlet you wore to peices last summer.
Not into these winter buys? Well, then try these...
