Forget sunning themselves on Surry Hills’ sidewalks and drinking their weight in draught beer - Sydney's publicans have a new favourite hobby. Renovating things! In fact, just about every pub and its dog has had a revamp of late and while that’s nothing but good news for us bar flies, they're all in danger of getting a bit cookie-cutter cool. Which is why the redux of The Duck Inn Pub & Kitchen really nabbed my attention.
Not only do they have decor that puts my house to shame, they do a mean Sunday roast, keep well stocked in board games and pride themselves on being super lady-friendly. Holler! We like to take staff meetings there just so we can drink pink apple cider and feel like we’re simultaneously holidaying in the Whitsundays.
What does all this mean? It means you can eat these things...

While sitting on these things...

Could a pub get any better? Maybe if they gave out free massages... Oh wait, they're doing that too. For their Girls Night In event on March 28. Seriously. It's too much!
Also, March at the Duck Inn sees The Festival of the Sausage. Which (while it sounds like it might be a male stripper showdown) is actually a celebration of all things sanga. There'll be a sausage tasting plate, the chance to win a bar tab and even scrumptious delights like their alpaca sausage. That's right - alpaca: not just for sweaters anymore!
And if you feel overwhelmed by choice, friendly owner/publican Ben is always on hand to help you choose. If last week's pastrami rueben is anything to go by, his taste is impeccable.
Check them out at 74 Rose Street in Chippendale and at The Duck Inn Pub & Kitchen.
