Fashion Week 2012 Rundown: Pretty Pastels At Lisa Maree

Written by

The face: We caught up with Maybelline NY makeup artist, Nigel Stanislaus to get the rundown on the look. "It's all about soft, dreamy pastel-inspired lips and eyes," says Stanislaus. "We've used a wash of lilac across the lids, working the colour up to the crease line and then pressed the lipstick onto the lips to create a soft, pillowy-looking finish," he explains. And for the night owls out there wanting to take the look into the evening, Stanislaus suggests you skip the kohl and stick with a coat or two of mascara for subtle definition. Too easy.

The threads: Lisa Maree's debut collection is the kind of thing my summer dreams are made of, laid-back 70's silhouettes in a range of sorbet shades so sweet they'll give you a toothache and skimpy swimmers that give you nowhere to hide. The flowy full-length silk dresses made us what to slap on a huge floppy hat and hit the beach, the crochet cozzies have us itching for a cocktail and the seriously cute (and surprisingly summery) leather pieces with heart cut outs got us searching for places to head off in search of warmer weather. Our pick? The crochet 'kinis. Excuse me, I'm off to do some sit ups.

The peeps: One of the first shows off the rank, the fashion pack flocked to Lisa Maree wearing fur and opaques in what was a relatively chilly Sydney morning. An opera singer was the first to walk with the models heating things up in laser-cut swimwear soon after. Pastels and sheer made their presence felt against the black and grey of both the sleek runway and the crowd's wintery wardrobe. Goodie bags for VIPs brimmed with snacks, deodorant, notebooks are more - basically, all the practical things one needs at fashion week! The first morning of the first day on the calendar, fashion editors and street style photographers alike milled about outside after the show to eyeball each other's outfits (possibly the funnest part of any show!) with Ruby Rose a crowd fave.
